Osteoporosis Naturally
|
| Nutritional speaking, osteoporosis is primarily caused by stress and changes on the endocrine system and accelerated by the lack of calcium, protein, vitamins, minerals and essential enzymes needed by the bones to stay "solid". Bellevue nutritionist Sam Zeiler addresses osteoporosis from the nutritional/dietary, lifestyle and environmental aspects. He sees the occurrence and effects of osteoporosis accelerated in many women today from our environment as well as our diet. Toxins in the air we breathe, water we drink, and food we eat all contribute to the onset and severity of osteoporosis. |

"Our health is
compromised by our environment," commented Zeiler, "and our
bodies react to it." Chronologically, the body may be 50
years old, however, biologically it may exhibit
characteristics of 60 years old he explained. Osteoporosis
must be addressed by looking at the larger, broader picture
and addressed early in life. There are many things women can
do to reduce osteoporosis and its affects.
Zeiler suggests reducing coffee and alcohol intake,
eliminating smoking, reduce refined sugar intake, limit
protein consumption to 2-4 ounces (or 15-20% of daily
calorie intake) per day, eat plenty of fruits and
vegetables, take in dietary calcium, and add a broad
spectrum daily vitamin. Zeiler also advocates completely
eliminating carbonated beverages from the diet. This
includes carbonated waters. Surprisingly, they can collect
the calcium ions and flush them out of the system. Physical
exercise and sunshine (vitamin D) are also essential.
Individual plans for health and diet offer the greatest
benefits. Zeiler explains "Specifically tailored, they are
designed to make stronger what is strong and protect what is
weak."
