First let us consider why we raise rabbits and why others do so. The major reasons for raising rabbits are:
· Meat
· Fur
· Show
· Pets
Now, let us look at the Cinnamon rabbit in each of these categories.
Meat
While some breeders do not consider this as an activity they would wish to participate in, it is an important factor to others. The 4-Her who must prove the value of his animals in a working farm situation will need to consider this. As to those that are trying to make a profit from their rabbit activities. The Cinnamon is a six-class animal with good weight gain, has a good ration of pounds of feed for pounds of meat and can be considered one of the finest rabbits for meat productions.
Fur
A more striking rabbit fur does not exist. A quality that sets the Cinnamon apart from other breeds is the attention that its coloring brings to the show table. The fur is beautiful when processed. Take a moment to picture a coat made of Cinnamon fur.
Show
Perhaps the major reason for raising rabbits in this country is the show table. The Cinnamon is gaining popularity and more are being shown across the country. The breed promotes itself. All we need to do is present it for public view. One must see this breed to appreciate its value as a show rabbit. They are an excellent breed of rabbit for the young exhibitor as well. The average weight is not so large that a child cannot handle them on their own. And, the personality with its calm, quiet disposition makes the breed an excellent youth rabbit. As the number of open exhibitors grows, so does the competition. This also promotes the breed. The quality of the show animals improves as does the quantity shown.
Pets
The young person who is not quite old enough for 4-H but wishes to start a project, should consider the Cinnamon breed of rabbit. The family looking for a pet may look to the small breeds first, but should consider the Cinnamon also. A very small breed of rabbit may be difficult for a young person to handle without hurting. A larger animal that cannot be easily picked up by the very young may be a better choice. Many families would like to have a pet rabbit but wish to house it outside. Again, the Cinnamon is a good choice. They are a hardy breed, they seem to enjoy attention and their disposition is well-suited for a pet.
