Zen To Done
by Leo Babauta

Review by Marian Brown

Reviewing e-books is not something I normally do. However, we must all embrace change and technology and I'll take the plunge. I accidentally came across this book, Zen to Done: The Ultimate Simple Productivity System, while scrolling through email newsletters. It picqued my interest as time management is an upcoming topic in our Vision Board Boot Camp. In a recent boot camp session we touched on the topic that many do not realize their visions because of time management. Personally, I get caught up in the daily tasks and put aside doing the small actions that would help me realize my dreams and visions. Yes, the Universe does help with our visions and bringing them forward, but when opportunity knocks, we at least need to open the door!

Zen to Done looks at the the other time management systems, notably David Allen's Getting Things Done (GTD) and Stephen Covey's "7 Habits of Successful People" and finds what works in those and what does not work for many and creates a system for the rest of us -- ZTD.

The author, Leo Babauta, breaks down the system -- a productivity system -- into simple habits. By changing our bad or non-existent habits, we can become more productivity. He provides very simple, not always easy, steps to do this. Breaking down ZTD into 10 Habits.

It boils down to the"habits". But, ZTD helps you form those habits and take the proactive steps to making the daily action a life-long habit. And, what is great about ZTD is that you do not implement all the habits at once. No major life changes needed! Simple steps that will move you forward at a slow, steady pace. The ultimate goal - if you choose to accept the program -- is to accomplish all ten habits over the course of a year. As the author, Leo Babauta points out, "I don't think becoming completely organized and productive in one year is such a bad accomplishment."

I like the frankness of Leo. Yes, this may take a year...but in a year you will be some place and better organized and more productive isn't such a bad place!
